TOPIK I and II
TOPIK I tests listening and reading, and TOPIK II adds writing. Neither has a speaking section. Use the grammar and words of your level in conversation, and your tutor explains anything you get wrong in your language.
TOPIK Speaking
Speaking has its own test: six questions in 30 minutes, answered on a computer at a test centre in Korea. Practice answering questions out loud, and your tutor corrects you and explains why.
Dia is speaking practice. It offers no mock exams and no official scores, and it is not a service of NIIED, which runs the TOPIK.

Frequently asked questions about learning Korean
Do I need to read Hangul before I start?
No. Your tutor writes in Hangul and can add the pronunciation, spelled the way Koreans say it, so you can start speaking while you learn to read.
Can I prepare for the TOPIK exam?
You can practice for it. It's conversation practice, not an official mock exam.
Will my tutor explain polite and casual speech?
Yes. Ask about 존댓말 and 반말 and your tutor explains when to use each, with examples of what you'd say to a coworker and what you'd say to a friend.
Is this useful for living or studying in Korea?
Yes. Your tutor can play out opening a bank account, viewing an apartment or ordering at a restaurant.
How does Dia compare to Duolingo for Korean?
Duolingo is fine for vocabulary review. Dia is built around conversation, so you practice particles and verb endings by using them.
Do TOPIK I and II test speaking?
No. Speaking is a separate test, TOPIK Speaking, held only in Korea. You can practice answering out loud with Dia from anywhere.
