Does Dia help with Mandarin tones?
In writing, yes: ask your tutor for pinyin with tone marks and explanations of tone changes. Your tutor works from the words you say, not your voice, so it can't grade your tones.
Can I prepare for the HSK exam?
You can practice for it. Pick your target HSK level and practice conversations with the vocabulary and grammar of that level.
Do you teach simplified or traditional characters?
Both. Your tutor writes in the script you're learning: simplified for mainland China and Singapore, traditional for Taiwan and Hong Kong.
How is this different from Duolingo for Chinese?
