# Dia vs Talkpal (2026): Price, Languages and Which AI Tutor to Pick

Talkpal offers 130+ languages and many practice modes. Dia focuses on one conversation that corrects you, remembers you and speaks the regional variety you choose. Prices and features as of November 2026, from Dia's founder, including when Talkpal is the better pick.

We make Dia, so this is a first-party comparison. The Talkpal facts below come from Talkpal's website, its pricing page and its US App Store page as of November 2026, with links in the sources. Where Talkpal is the better pick, we say so.

The short version: Talkpal is broader. It advertises 130+ languages, a long list of practice modes, a free plan with 10 minutes a day and a 14-day Premium trial. Dia is narrower and built around one thing, an open conversation that corrects you inline, remembers your goals and the words you practice, and lets you pick a regional variety. On a month-to-month basis Dia also costs less.

## How a practice session works in each

Talkpal gives you a menu. You can chat with an AI tutor, switch to a call, act out a roleplay, talk to a character, argue one side of a debate, describe a photo, or drill words and sentences. Feedback on pronunciation and grammar comes as you go, and Premium adds a daily feedback summary.

Dia gives you one conversation. You talk or type about anything, and Dia replies in the language you're learning, at your level. When you make a mistake you see the corrected form with a one-line explanation in your own language, and the conversation carries on. Dia keeps what you told it about your goals and interests, and the words you've practiced come back in later conversations. You choose the regional variety you want to hear, for example Austrian or Swiss German, Mexican or Spain Spanish, or French from France or Canada.

Which suits you depends on whether switching formats keeps you practicing, or whether you'd rather have one conversation that gets more useful the longer you use it.

## Where Talkpal is the better choice

- Your language is less widely taught. Talkpal advertises 130+ languages against Dia's 30+, so if your language isn't on Dia's list, Talkpal may well have it.
- You want lots of formats. Debates, roleplays, photo descriptions and word drills are all built in. Dia is one conversation, so if switching formats keeps you going, Talkpal fits better.
- You want a long free trial. Talkpal gives 14 days of Premium; Dia gives 24 hours before you drop to the free account.
- You're committing for a year. Talkpal's 12 Months Pass is $119.99 on the US App Store, about $10 a month, roughly what Dia's 30-day pass costs. Talkpal's pricing page also lists a 24-month plan.

## Where Dia is the better choice

- Paying month to month. Dia's one-off 30-day pass is $9.99; Talkpal's 1 Month Pass is $19.99 on the US App Store.
- You don't want a subscription. Talkpal describes Premium as a subscription you can cancel at any time. Dia's $9.99 pass covers 30 days, and you buy another only if you want one.
- You want the tutor to remember you. Dia is built to carry your goals, your interests and your practiced words from one session to the next. A quick test for any app: tell it your goal on the first day and see whether it brings it up on the third.
- You care about the regional variety, or you want explanations in your own language. Dia lets you choose the variety, explains corrections in your language, and its interface comes in 35 languages.

The free tiers are measured differently: Talkpal counts minutes (10 a day) and Dia counts messages (10 a day), so try both with the way you actually practice before deciding which allowance goes further.

## Which should you pick?

- Your language is only on Talkpal, or you want many practice formats: Talkpal.
- You want a long free trial before deciding: Talkpal's 14 days.
- You want one conversation that remembers you, a specific regional variety, or a one-off payment: Dia. [Try it for German](/en/learn-german), [French](/en/learn-french) or [Spanish](/en/learn-spanish).
